Deuteronomy, 4:23-24

Still Time To Stop The Emergencies Act

Alberta Institute

Dear Canada,

Last night, the House of Commons voted 185-151 to approve the federal government's invocation of the Emergencies Act.

The Liberal Party, New Democratic Party, one Green MP, and one Independent MP voted in favour of the motion.

The Conservative Party, Bloc Quebecois, and one Green MP voted against the motion.

This vote is not the end of the fight against the motion, however.

The nature of the Emergencies Act is that, while it can be initially invoked unilaterally by the government without any vote in Parliament, a motion must pass through both the House and Senate in order for it to be in force for more than a week.

Therefore, now that the motion has passed the House, it now goes to the Senate, who will be debating it today.

It is true that a majority of the current Senate was appointed by Justin Trudeau, but many of these Senators claim to be "independents".

Now would certainly be a great time for them to show it, and vote against today's motion, rather than voting for whatever the Prime Minister wants.

That's why it's vital that we call on every single Senator, from all parties, to protect the rights and freedoms of Canadians by rejecting the federal government's invocation of the Emergencies / War Measures Act.

Countless legal experts and civil liberties groups across the country have already denounced the use of this law and called on the government to reverse course.

If you agree, please sign our petition against the use of this Act, and then forward this email to your friends, family, colleagues, and every Canadian.
