Three Our Fathers, three Hail Marys, and three Glorias in worship of Our Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit; the Trinity for whom St. Jean de Brebeuf willingly died that the peoples of North America might come to know our Saviour Jesus Christ and live forever in Him.

Live Action’s Lila Rose discusses conversion to Catholicism RSSFacebookFebruary 29, 2012

Lila Rose, the young pro-life activist who has used undercover videos to expose some of Planned Parenthood’s practices, has discussed her 2009 conversion to Catholicism in an interview with the National Catholic Register.
“I learned about Jesus Christ as a Protestant,” she recounts. “But in my upbringing, my dad was on his own spiritual journey, reading the Church Fathers and doctors,” and she began to study some of these works as a teenager. As a UCLA student, she attended Mass at an Opus Dei center, and a year and a half later, she was received into the Church.

Hebrew Catholics: Convert shares his story

Father David Neuhaus, the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem's vicar for Hebrew-speaking Catholics, has discussed his conversion from Judaism to Christianity.

"It was at the age of 15 upon first arriving in Israel that I made the acquaintance of one of the great spiritual figures at that time in Jerusalem, a Russian Orthodox nun who was the abbess--the mother abbess of a convent--her name was Mother Barbara," he recounts.

Father Neuhaus continued:

I did not go to see her because I was interested in Christianity but rather because I was interested in Russian history and meeting her was truly a meeting with Jesus Christ. I did not believe in too much at that time and religion did not interest me in the least but what attracted my attention was the great joy with which she spoke about anything and it was a joy that provoked me to ask her: "Why are you so joyful? You're 89 years old, you can't walk, you can't move, you are living in a tiny little dingy room. What makes you so happy?" And that provoked her in turn to give witness to her faith. That simply trapped me; caught me.

After promising his parents, who were refugees from Nazi Germany, that he would wait a decade before converting, Father Neuhaus was baptized as a Catholic at age 26. "I was regularly going to adoration long before I could even take Communion," he said.

Chinese authorities arrest priests in Inner Mongolia

China's government regularly changes tactics in its campaign against the Catholic Church, switching from subtle pressure to outright persecution at different times and places. In Inner Mongolia the campaign is overt.

By arresting several priests, driving several others into hiding, and closing the seminary, authorities have left the little Catholic community of Inner Mongolia without access to the sacraments. The work of the "underground" Church in the region has been badly disrupted. The "official" Catholic community in Inner Mongolia is led by Bishop Paul Meng Oinglu, whose claim to pastoral authority is unclear because, although he is officially recognized by the Vatican, he is also the vice-president of the Patriotic Catholic Assembly. Pope Benedict has urged loyal Catholics to shun the latter group.

The AsiaNews service infers that the wave of repression has been undertaken in preparation for a meeting of the National Assembly and a change in leadership for the Beijing government. Chinese authorities have frequently cracked down on Catholics just before major national events.

The cultural ministry of Turkey has reported finding a 1,500-year-old document, possibly written in Aramaic, which may be the apocryphal "Gospel of Barnabas." Turkish authorities say that the document was seized from smugglers in 2000. It will need repairs before it can be exhibited, they said.

Vatican officials have reportedly asked for an opportunity to study the manuscript. Although many news accounts identified it as an ancient Bible, the content cannot be determined until it is cleaned and translated. Aramaic, the language spoken by Jesus, is rarely used in the same form today.

Iran curbs Christian church services in native language RSSFacebook February 24, 2012 The government of Iran has cracked down on Christian churches that hold worship services in the Persian language.

Government officials ordered two Protestant churches to stop conducting the Persian-language services on Friday. The services are allowed on Sunday, but most Iranians work on Sunday, whereas Friday, the Muslim sabbath, is a day of rest.

Authorities in Iran are seeking to heighten the perception that the Christian faith is a foreign interest. The ban on use of Iran's national language furthers both goals. The ban also makes it more difficult for interested Iranians to learn more about the faith.

Lejeune beatification cause proceeds to Rome

The Archdiocese of Paris has announced that the diocesan phase of the cause for beatification of Jérôme Lejeune (1926-94) will conclude with an April 11 Mass at Notre Dame Cathedral. Lejuene, who served as the first president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, discovered the genetic origin of Down syndrome.

"It is an important first step as it marks the end of the informative process," said Father Jean-Charles Nault, postulator of the cause. "At this stage, there is no conclusion on the part of the Church because the qualitative study of the life and virtues will be carried out in the framework of the Roman process, which will begin after the close of the diocesan process."
