EUCHARIST counters postmodernity’s fragmentation

Quoting William Butler Yeats ("Things fall apart / the centre cannot hold / Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world"), Father Robert Imbelli, a professor of theology at Boston College, writes that the Holy Eucharist counters the fragmentation characteristic off postmodernity.

The Eucharist "calls believers to allow the presence of Christ to transform both themselves and their world," he writes. "In place of the protean, rootless self of postmodernity, the Eucharist fosters a centered self, free to give generously as he or she has so generously received."
