Iraq: Catholic church bombedRSSFacebookAugust 02, 2011

A bomb exploded at a Syrian Catholic church in Kirkuk, causing severe damage to the church and injuring 23, including the parish priest, Father Imad Yalda. Police then discovered bombs at two other Christian churches in the northern Iraqi city.

"We are shocked and really sad," Archbishop Louis Sako of Kirkuk told Vatican Radio. The bombing was particularly appalling, he observed, because it came at the opening of Ramadan, which "is supposed to be a month of fasting and prayer, to do good things."

Nevertheless, a Catholic priest in Kirkuk told AP: "The terrorist want to make us feel Iraq, but they will fail."
