Caritas Japan: 100,000 earthquake victims need winter housingRSSFacebookSeptember 09, 2011

Six months after a devastating earthquake in Japan, more than 100,000 people are still in need of shelter as winter approaches, the Caritas relief agency reports.

The March 11 earthquake caused 15,774 confirmed deaths, and 4,227 people are still listed as missing; nearly 500,000 were driven from their homes. Today 90,000 live in tent shelters while 10,000 are temporarily housed in public buildings. More than 15,000 are unable to return to their homes because they live within the radioactive zone created by the failure of the Fukushima nuclear plant.
