IRELAND / for Prayer: Nearly 800 institutionalized children buried in mass grave

Irish mass grave yields remains of almost 800 institutionalized children

Catholic World News - June 04, 2014

The discovery of a mass grave, containing the remains of nearly 800 young children, has revived accusations about abuse of children by Catholic institutions in Ireland.
A researcher found the remains of 796 children in unmarked graves near the site of a former orphanage run by the Catholic Church in County Galway. The deceased children are believed to be the babies born by unwed mothers in an institution for homeless adults that operated between 1926 and 1951.
The Catholic Church has suffered under intense criticism for reported abuses at institutions that were run, in cooperation with the Irish government for unwed mothers, truants, the homeless, and others in need.
