Faith assures victory over world, Pope tells congregation
CWN - January 10, 2014
At a morning Mass at the Vatican on January 10, Pope Francis observed that faith can overcome all obstacles, and yet "the Church is full of defeated Christians who do not believe in this."
Commenting on the first letter of St. John, the Pope said that faith in God ensures victory over the world. But those who do not live their faith cannot enjoy that victory, he said.
True faith requires steady and active belief, the Pope said. "Confess the faith! All of it, not part of it!" he exhorted his congregation at the Casa Sanctae Marthae. Faith also calls for trust in God, he added. "There are many Christians with a hope too watered down, not strong: a faint hope." But with faith and hope, Christians have assurance of victory.
