Missionaries should accompany migrants, says Vatican official

    	  In a likely reference to missionary priests and religious, the  president of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants  and Itinerant People said that at a recent conference that "it is very  important that the Churches of departure for migrants follow their  missionary vocation not to neglect those who leave their home community  to go elsewhere."     Archbishop Antonio Maria Vegliò noted that "those  who arrive today in European Union countries are mostly Christians" and  denounced "despicable attacks against migrants have occurred in recent  years, people who have often been victims of intolerance,  discrimination, and xenophobia, with isolated episodes of racism."
