A survey conducted by the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus has found that 51% of Americans would ban the vast majority of abortions. 11% said abortion should never be permitted; 9% said abortion should be permitted only to save the life of the mother; and 31% said abortion should be permitted only in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother.
28% of those surveyed said abortion should be permitted during the first trimester, while 8% said it should be permitted only during the first two trimesters. 12% believe there should be no restrictions on abortion.
