Down Syndrome babies targeted for extinction, Spanish bishops warnChildren with Down Syndrome are being targeted for destruction in the womb, a spokesman for the Spanish bishops reported.
During his visit to Barcelona next week, Pope Benedict XVI will bless a new building for the Nino Dios foundation, which serves children with various disabilities. The foundation was once dedicated to working with Down Syndrome, but expanded its scope to cover other disabilities in part because Down Syndrome babies are becoming less common—not because of any advance in medical treatment, but because parents are not opting to abort children when prenatal tests show indications of the condition. A spokesman for the Spanish bishops' conference said: "We know that the number of these people has declined mostly because a good number of them are eliminated before they are born."
