Italian Jesuit honored as 'Righteous Among Nations' December 16, 2010
Yad Vashem, the State of Israel's Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority, has honored Italian Jesuit Father Raffaele de Ghantuz Cubbe (1904-83) as one of the "Righteous Among the Nations" for hiding three Jewish children at his school during World War II. Marco Pavoncello, one of the three children, told Vatican Radio that the atmosphere of the school was peaceful and that he never experienced any anti-Semitism or any attempts at forced conversion there.
