Assassination attempt against Coptic bishop in Egypt
CWN - October 01, 2013
A Coptic Orthodox bishop survived an assassination attempt as he was traveling to console the family of a murder victim, according to multiple media reports.
After the car of Bishop Anba Makarios of Minya came under fire, he and his companions took refuge in a local home.
The Assyrian International News Agency reported that local Muslims were angered because they thought the bishop was coming to reopen a church that had been closed for a decade.
"In other words, Muslims were angry because of the presence of a church in the village and the police do not want any trouble with them, and therefore Copts have to go without prayers just to appease the Muslims," said a Coptic activist.
