Catholic Charities USA has called for the repeal of a new mandate that requires private insurers to provide women with coverage for FDA-approved contraception and sterilization.
Focusing on the mandate's narrow religious exemption--which would not exempt religious social-service agencies--Father Larry Snyder, the president of Catholic Charities USA, argued that the mandate is "contrary to our nation's most core beliefs," violates the First Amendment, and violates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993.
