Laos: security officials dismissed following conversion to Christianity
CWN - June 25, 2012
Authorities in the Communist nation of Laos have dismissed two security officials following their conversion to Christianity.
"The Phin district military command discharged Khamsorm and Tonglai from active duty in the village security forces and took away their firearms that came with their position," Human Rights Watch for Lao Religious Freedom reported. "Although Kahmsorn and Tonglai have faithfully served to protect the Lao nation and the people who reside in their village, they are now being punished and dishonored due to their religious affiliation."
The nation of 6.5 million is 67% Buddhist and 2% Christian; 0.7% of Laotians are Catholic.
