Islamist extremists destroying Timbuktu's shrines
CWN - July 04, 2012
Describing the Muslim shrines and tombs of Timbuktu as "un-Islamic," members of the radical Islamist group Ansar Dine ("Defenders of the Faith") are destroying much of the ancient city's heritage."I believe this is a tragedy for all of humanity," said Irina Bokova, secretary of UNESCO.
Ansar Dine is calling for the imposition of sharia law in Mali and has conquered portions of the west African nation, leading some Christians to flee in their wake.
