Prefect of CDF rips 'heretical' reading of Vatican II
CWN - November 29, 2012
The new prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) has said that traditionalist Catholics advance a "heretical interpretation" of Vatican II if they claim that the Council made radical changes in Church teaching. Archbishop Gerhard Müller said that an accurate reading of Vatican II statements must assume that the Council's statements are in keeping with the established teachings of the Church. The German archbishop strongly endorsed the argument of Pope Benedict XVI that a "hermeneutic of continuity" is required for a proper understanding of the Council.
